ELERE TABLE WATER FACTORY - {#}MW MINI GRID

8kW/49kWh ELEYE OKO MINI-GRID WATER FACTORY PROJECT

This is a short text area to describe the project. Just write a few words about the purpose, inspiration or success of the project and let the images tell the rest of the story.

Challenge

A site contains a Pure Water Sachet Factory (capable of producing 3 million sachets a year)  and staff accommodation facilities for  8 people (including 8 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms a living room and fully furnished kitchen with freezer, fridge and microwave)  required an energy system. There was no grid connection available on site and 10kVA generator was used to power the facility. Initially only the accommodation was used and running the generator from 19:00 - 00:00 was costing about 416,00 naira annually.

Solution

As the site was expanded to incorporate the water factory ASC was engaged to design a  mini-grid that would provide power 24/7. ASC energy worked with the architect to design a south facing roof that would optimise installation  3kW of roof mounted solar PV; a 5kW ground array was designed and space for a second array was left for future expansion. The roof array is DC coupled, charging the 49kWh battery bank directly,  a charger/inverter creates the mini-grid delivering AC power to equipment as needed. Finally the ground array is powers a grid tied inverter which is connected on the output of the charger/inverter so that it can power large loads directly. This system configuration ensures that the optimum amount of solar is stored for night time use  whilst reducing power conversion losses when powering water factory equipment. The generator is also integrated with the system to provide back up power but so far the facility is running only on solar energy.
